Ho-Chunk

Ho-Chunk, meaning "people of the big voice (or sacred language)", claim decent from the mound building cultures circa 1000 AD, whom they call the Oneota. Their oral history indicates their people have been in this area since before the last two ice ages. This flying eagle, holding a peace pipe, appears on the great seal of the modern Ho-Chunk nation.
